spacer girl
spacer girl
Media: pen, Adobe Photoshop 7.0

While it doesn't look all that special, this is a very interesting image in terms of the process that I went through to get it to the final draft. It was originally a practice in character design about this size that I then scanned it into the computer at a high resolution, changed the pencil lines blue in Photoshop, and enlarged it until it covered a 8.5"x11" sheet of paper. Next I printed it out and outlined it. Then I scanned it back in at an atrociously large size as a bitmap image, so the blue didn't scan, after which I shrank it down to its original size – this is the only way I can get lines this thin on my pictures. I then worked on it at 600 dpi in Photoshop in order to color it – that's the highest resolution I've ever used for an anime picture.

So, anyway, here's my blue spacer girl. You can tell that she would be a successful character design, because the clothing is impractical. I mean, why would a girl who has to clamber around in spaceships which have big, poky pieces of metal wear a mini-skirt? And why would said mini-skirt have two zippers right next to each other? Also, why would she wear light colors like blue and white while clambering around in dirty, oily places? Hmmm... I must be getting better at character designs ^.^

Another version.
